There are two ways to block a number. The first option is to block it temporarily, this option works only for one specific call it will block the number from being displayed only for a single number. For blocking the number temporarily prefix the phone number with *67 and then call. For example, if the person wants to call to 123456789 and doesn't want his/her number to be displayed. Then, he/she will have to dial *67 123456789 and then call so that his/ her number can be blocked. The other person may receive the call without the number being displayed on his or her panel.

The second option is to block the number permanently. Most of the cell phone carriers offer a service called line block service. To make use of the service the user needs to call up his or her own mobile phone's customer care service and request them to line block his or her mobile phone number. This also allows the user to block his or her cell phone number from being displayed permanently.

Here are few tips for the user to go ahead and block his or her mobile phone number permanently. There might be a particular instance when a user might wish to display his or her cell phone number in the caller's caller ID. For this the user must press *82 before the number he or she wants to call. For example, if the user wants to call 123456678 and also wants his or her number to be displayed then the user is supposed to dial *82 123456678 and then call. However, any caller or user cannot block his or her mobile phone number from emergency services. Thus any other number can be blocked and privacy can be restored.
