Easy Mail Vs E-Mail

It was not too long ago that most people had no internet, let alone e-mail address, and it become very hard to stand out from the crowd when it came to direct mail marketing.

Fast forward ten years, now the average person has 7 email accounts, receives in excess of 100 emails per day and has anti-virus and spam filters everywhere. E-mail has taken off, but from a marketing perspective, how useful is it?

Most people will agree that an unsolicited e-mail poses too much of a risk to often even open it, let alone read it's contents, click on a link or purchase something from it.

Direct Mail on the other hand has done a back flip. People are now more interested in physical mail, with response rates soaring above e-mail, and when coupled with a telephone follow up, have been in excess of 10% response rate.

I know what you are going to say, direct mail is too expensive. Well, consider you are a real estate agent. The current cost of postage in Australia sits at 60c. Add on to that printing, paper, envelopes, some time to produce the mail piece and send it off. Let's say that each mail piece costs you $1.20.

If you send 100 letters, your total investment is $120. Now let's say you follow these up with a phone call, and let's say that the cost per call is $1, so your total now is $220! Pretty expensive right?

Now let's say that results don't go as planned, and you only get a 5% response rate, that is 5 leads. If you turn just 2 of those into listings, of say a $300,000 house, and let's say your commission is 1%, that is $6,000!

Suddenly, $220 doesn't seem so much.

Ok, with email you can get it sent out quickly, to millions of people at once, but for the one lead you get doing this, how many of the millions do you leave a bad impression with?

Direct Mail does not have to be difficult:

1. Create an appealing marketing piece, targeted to your audience and ensure you have a 'call to action'. For example 'Call today for your free appraisal and you will receive a free sales price report on your suburb'

2. Get your letter printed, envelope filling and get it mailed.

3. get ready to make some phone calls and start reaping the benefits that direct mail has.

It truly is the new old way to market to your customers again!
