How to Ground TV Antenna?

Thunderstorm or lightning travels in a straight line and it will hit the path that is least resistant. Hence some wire or bend is placed to give the lightning a way to jump out. Mostly three types are available. They are Static, RF and electrical. There are different methods used for the above three grounding. The most difficult grounding is the Static to give guaranteed result. Electrical is the easiest one and it gives the best result.

Outside antenna of the TV should be grounded though no government recommends antennas to be grounded. Incase of accidents due to lightning; no insurance will be rendered if the antenna is not grounded. With the wind blowing on the antenna, static electricity will built up and it will act as an attractor to the opposite charge of the storm clouds. You can drain out this static charge on the antenna by grounding the antenna.

You can ground a TV antenna by following the instructions given below.

1. Turn the bolts on the antenna mast clockwise and loosen it by using a wrench. Clean the dirt on the mast and twist one end of the ground wire roughly on the bolt and tighten the bolt.
2. Take the ground wire to the base, but don't forget to tie the wire with cable ties at four to six foot gap for security.
3. A Copper-Clad steel rod should be impelled 8 feet into the ground with a hammer. The exposed grounding rod and the clamp should be clamped tightly by tightening two bolts clockwise.
4. Now connect the wire into the clamp and screw the grounding clamp to lock the wire in the clamp. Remove any excess of wire on the clamp.
