Beginners Tips for Email

If you are new to the internet, you will be in for an information overload. The amount of information on the internet is mind boggling. This is truly the information age. There are somethings that you should be cautious of though. We will go over some of the things to watch out for and to avoid doing.

The first thing to know is that not all the information on the internet is correct. Far too often people believe what they read on the internet is true. This is not always the case. There have been a few times recently, when a major news outlet broke a news story that was simply not true. They had to retract what they said and it gave them a black eye. The reason this happened was because the journalist didn't do the proper fact checking beforehand. So just be wary of what you read on the internet. It might not be true.

As soon as you get online one of the first things that you are going to do is get email. Email is what makes the world go round now. With an email address you are going to get what is called spam email. Spam emails are emails that are unwanted and usually sell you junk.

Never respond to any of these emails. The reason that you don't want to respond to spam is that a lot of these emails have it set up that if you chose to opt out of the spam, then you actually sign up for more. This can happen because they use a redirect signal to send your response to another place. Since you responded back then, they know this email address is good and they will hit you back up.

Also, when it comes to email never open any email attachment from someone you don't know. If your sister is sending you an attachment of pictures then this is ok. If you get an email attachment from a stranger you are setting yourself up for trouble. This is one of the ways that hackers send you viruses.

The attachments that you will want to avoid are anything with .EXE or .COM on the end of them. These are executable files. Meaning they will start running once you click on them. A.ZIP file is fine to open. You can open them and see what is in them. If you have any doubts then you can simply delete it.
